FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio isn’t sure if Mario Balotelli will return to the Italy squad – ‘Conte will decide’.

CT Antonio Conte has called up the Liverpool striker just once since taking over from Cesare Prandelli, but with the 25-year-old on the verge of returning to Milan, the head of the federation was asked for his thoughts on Super Mario.

“Conte will decide,” Tavecchio told assembled media at an event in Taormina.

“The player knows that he [Conte] places a lot of importance in sacrifice and morals."

Serie A squads will be limited to 25 players for this season, and Tavecchio defended the move, and believes it won’t limit chances for youngsters.

“I don’t think it’s a problem, in fact we’re helping clubs from a financial point of view.

“Spaces for young players? They’ll increase progressively as set out in the rules.”

Finally, Tavecchio was asked about the demotion of Catania, who have been thrown out of Serie B for match-fixing.

“We’ll wait for every level of judgement before expressing any opinion on that,” the President said, mindful of the fact Catania are appealing the ruling.
