Milan Coach Gennaro Gattuso says Gonzalo Higuain will be monitored in the coming days and “we hope it’s nothing serious”.

The striker went off injured against Udinese, and the Rossoneri face Real Betis and Juventus this week.

“It’s no coincidence that we give players a recovery day after games, but many of them are here at Milanello for treatment today,” Gattuso revealed, speaking to Milan TV.

“Pipita will be evaluated in the coming days and we hope it’s nothing serious. Franck [Kessié] is in a bit of pain but that’s normal when you play so often. He has a high threshold and can play with pain.

“We hope to recover [Hakan] Calhanoglu and [Davide] Calabria, because they are very important players for us and we need to recharge our batteries in the two games before the international break.”

Gattuso also took the time to defend Tiemoué Bakayoko, whose performances have been criticised since he joined on loan from Chelsea.

“Apart from his technical error against Genoa, Bakayoko has been very good tactically.

“He needs confidence and to hear fewer whistles when we play at home, because he’s proving that when he plays calmly, combining physicality with technique, he can relieve the pressure on us.

“He needs to improve on the ball, but in terms of running and physicality he’s giving us a lot.”
