Fiorentina boss Cesare Prandelli has warned his outfit that Lyon are a better side than the one they failed to beat last season.
The two meet in France this evening in Matchday 1 of the Champions League and the former Juventus midfielder knows it will be tough.
I think Lyon, as a team, are better than last year, said the tactician. That's why we'll have to start the game with the right enthusiasm, courage and spirit.
They are a very strong side, well organised and blessed with quality individuals. But we are here to have fun as well and show we can win.
Fiorentina drew 2-2 at the Stade de Gerland a year ago in the same competition and were defeated 2-1 at home in the return.
And although the climatic conditions have complicated matters, Prandelli is remaining hopeful of victory.
We can win, he added. The pitch might not be in the best condition because of the rain, but we are used to playing good football and that's what we want to do against Lyon.
Adrian Mutu has been named in the squad and could start after his recent injury problems.
While Prandelli is full of respect for Lyon, Claude Puel isnt underestimating the Italian outfit either who are unbeaten so far this term.
We shouldnt think we have a psychological advantage after last season, said the Lyon boss. After all, Fiorentina had a 2-0 lead at half-time before we made it 2-2.
They know each other really well, so it will be difficult for us.
We are not afraid of Fiorentina, but we have a lot of respect for them. They are great up front and we'll have to be wary of Alberto Gilardino and Stevan Jovetic's partnership.
Debrecen and Liverpool make up the group.
