Napoli starlet Lorenzo Insigne “did not even want to listen to offers” that came in this summer, revealed his agent.
The 22-year-old has progressed to the senior Italy squad and was of interest to many clubs, but was determined to remain with his hometown team.
“Everyone knows there were proposals for my client this summer,” agent Fabio Andreotti told TuttoNapoli.
“Well, one of these interested clubs even sent one of their representatives to the Castel Volturno training ground to negotiate for his signature.
“Lorenzo did not even want to listen to the offers, as he didn’t even sit down for a cup of coffee. He can become the Neapolitan Francesco Totti.”
Insigne is becoming a firm fan favourite at the San Paolo and could play for Italy in this very stadium against Armenia in October.
“It would be wonderful to see Lorenzo at the San Paolo with the Azzurri jersey. Perhaps it’s the only time he could ever wear a different jersey there, even if it’s still blue!
“All joking aside, everything is in Cesare Prandelli’s hands and Lorenzo’s feet. The Coach has immense respect for him, so now it’s up to him to cultivate and grow it.
“His real strength is his mentality, as Lorenzo manages to isolate himself from all outside pressure, which is fundamental for a player.”
