Milan's Christian Abbiati is delighted that last season’s efforts have now been rewarded with a place in the Champions League.
The Diavolo had a nightmare beginning to the 2012-13 campaign, but they recovered to finish third in Serie A and qualify for the preliminary round of Europe’s premier club competition.
After a 1-1 draw at PSV Eindhoven last week, the Rossoneri secured progression to the group stages with a 3-0 San Siro triumph on Wednesday.
“We achieved our goal,” the veteran goalkeeper commented. “It’s the perfect end to the comeback that we started last season.
“We played as a team, like Milan. The loss to Verona at the weekend was not good, but we took to the pitch against PSV compact and focused.
“It wasn’t easy as PSV are a good team, but I think we deserved the result.”
The Champions League draw will take place today , but Abbiati’s desire to play PSG in order to “meet some old friends” can’t occur.
That is because Milan and Paris Saint-Germain are both in pot two.
