Napoli have announced Miguel Angel Britos will go under the knife on Monday to reduce a jaw fracture he sustained during the 1-1 draw with Juventus.
The defender accidentally clashed heads with teammate Gokhan Inler last night and appeared to be unconscious for a few moments due to the force of the impact.
He recovered and carried on playing for the remaining 15 minutes of the first half, but tests later showed he had fractured his jaw.
Napoli have now confirmed a specialist visit advised surgery to reduce the compound fracture of the left side of his jaw.
The operation will take place on Monday and Britos will return to the squad for training after a few days.
It is unclear when he will be able to resume playing with the aid of a protective face mask.
