Roma Coach Aurelio Andreazzoli prepares for Atalanta without Francesco Totti and feels the victory over Juventus “helped us to work better.”
The man who replaced Zdenek Zeman got his first win on the Giallorossi bench last week when Totti’s screamer secured a 1-0 result against the Serie A leaders.
“We don’t want that to remain an isolated incident, so we must build on what we did last week,” said Andreazzoli in his Press conference.
“I tell the lads to keep their concentration levels high, but to be honest there is no need for me to do that. They know what they have to do. There’s absolutely no risk of the euphoria affecting us.”
They must do without the suspended Totti and Daniele De Rossi for Sunday’s trip to Atalanta, though Pablo Daniel Osvaldo has shaken off a knock.
“It’s obvious that Francesco and Daniele are important players for us, but the team showed all week that they are a real group who work together.
“There are dangers in facing Atalanta, as we had several negative performances in Bergamo over the years. I remember it always being a tough place to play.”
When Andreazzoli took over from Zeman, he immediately dropped Mauro Goicoechea and returned the gloves to Maarten Stekelenburg.
“Stekelenburg is happy and working well, but I must say the same of the other goalkeepers, Mauro and Bogdan Lobont. I’d like to say I spoke to Goicoechea and he is 100 per cent relaxed, because he has always done his duty, even when he was unlucky in certain incidents.
“He should be given credit for that attitude and set the example for the others. His conscience is clear because he has always trained very well and only made a mistake, the kind many teammates could make in other areas of the field.”
Andreazzoli hinted that Nico Lopez could be given a rare chance to shine after returning from the Under-20 South American championship, where he was top scorer.
“Over the last two or three days he has been training extremely well.”
