Records came crashing down at the Tardini and the Olimpico, Riccardo Meggiorini just loves Inter and Mauro Icardi has poker previous, as Susy Campanale rounds up the Serie A Week 22 stats.
Lazio’s streak came crashing to a halt after 10 wins and six draws in all competition. It also ended their run of nine League home matches unbeaten, in which they had always found the back of the net. This was only their second home defeat in 18 official games at the Olimpico this season, the other 1-0 to Genoa on September 23.
Chievo have lost only once at the Olimpico, 1-0 on October 5 2003, earning four wins and six draws. Alberto Paloschi has scored 12 goals in a Chievo jersey, but nine of them were netted outside the Bentegodi. This was his 20th in Serie A, the seventh of the current campaign and second in a row.
Riccardo Meggiorini broke a 28-game Serie A drought, as his last goal was for Novara against Inter in September 2011, while he had never managed a top flight brace. He has scored nine top flight goals, three of them past favourite victims Inter. Torino are still without a victory at San Siro since 1988, managing six draws and eight defeats. Including home and away matches, the Granata haven’t beaten Inter since 1994 with four draws from 18 attempts. The Nerazzurri have never lost once taking the lead this season in the League, winning 12 and drawing two.
Inter have won just once in the last six rounds, earning three draws and a defeat. Torino have shared the spoils 10 times this season, eight of them on their travels. Cristian Chivu scored his ninth Serie A goal, his first since January 19 2011 during a 3-2 win over Cesena. Esteban Cambiasso took his tally to 37, three in the current campaign.
Marco Borriello’s 64th Serie A goal was his first against Juventus in 13 encounters with seven different clubs. It was the 100th Genoa have scored against the Bianconeri in Serie A history. The Grifone have only beaten Juve once in the last 18 encounters home and away, a 3-2 at Marassi in April 2009. They haven’t conquered Turin since Thomas Skuhravy scored the only goal on January 20 1991, followed by three draws and eight losses between Serie A and B.
Juventus have drawn three of their last four games between Serie A and the Coppa Italia. The last time they drew two on the bounce in Turin was in March against Chievo in Serie A and Milan for the Coppa Italia. Fabio Quagliarella got his 72nd Serie A goal, his first since a hat-trick against Pescara on November 10. He is the current top League scorer for the Bianconeri thanks to seven strikes.
Parma lost their unbeaten home record after 11 wins and four draws. The last side to conquer the Stadio Tardini in Serie A was Milan, 2-0 on March 17 2012. Napoli had already interrupted Parma’s record streak of 20 home games without defeat in 1992-93. Napoli have a very strong recent record in Emilia-Romagna, winning their last three consecutive visits. The Partenopei have earned three League victories and a 1-1 draw since their last defeat here, 4-0 in May 2001.
The Partenopei have 46 points after 22 rounds, just one shy of the club record set in 1989-90 (calculating three points for a win). Marek Hamsik got his 58th Serie A goal, but it was the 101st for Edinson Cavani. The Uruguayan has found the net nine times in his last 10 official games.
Roma continue their tendency to drop leads, having now fumbled 18 points from winning situations this season. They had been leading Bologna both home and away, but emerged with just one point. The Giallorossi have spectacular starts, as this season they’ve scored 19 and conceded 11 in the opening half-hour of their games.
Alessandro Florenzi has scored in both his Serie A meetings with Bologna. Curiously, both goals came in the opening 10 minutes. Roma haven’t lost at the Dall’Ara since a 3-1 result in September 2004, coming away with two draws and three victories. Stefano Pioli has never beaten Roma on his own turf, managing only three draws from five attempts.
Alberto Gilardino’s 155th Serie A goal puts him on a par with Vinicio in 22nd place in the all-time charts, just one shy of Gigi Riva, Roberto Mancini and Pippo Inzaghi. Gila has put three goals past Roma this season. Manolo Gabbiadini has a total of six top flight goals, two in the last three rounds. Cristian Pasquato broke his duck after 19 games.
Pablo Daniel Osvaldo scored his 11th game of the season, matching the personal best set last term. Panagiotis Tachtsidis got his debut goal at the 14th Serie A match. Zdenek Zeman has never conquered Bologna with four draws and three defeats here.
Stephan El Shaarawy had not found the net for four rounds. Milan are unbeaten in Bergamo since a 2-1 result in January 2008, earning three wins and a 1-1 draw. Atalanta are without a victory in seven official games, losing five. The Rossoneri have amassed 22 points in the last nine rounds, more than any other Serie A club.
Atalanta have the worst disciplinary record in the Division, as Davide Brivio received their ninth red card.
Catania hadn’t notched up three consecutive Serie A wins since May 2011. The Elefantini added an extra 16 points to their tally by fighting back from behind this season, more than any other club. Fiorentina have scraped just one point from the last four rounds, while Vincenzo Montella has never won a game in January, losing five out of seven. This is the first time since a 3-0 Viola win in September 1965 that there have been over two goals in this fixture.
Giulio Migliaccio marked his 11th Serie A goal, his first since Parma 5-3 Genoa on January 22 2012. Nicola Legrottaglie scored his 21st, joining Walter Samuel as the joint most prolific defender still in activity.
Mauro Icardi became the first player in Serie A this season to score four in a single game, but he had already achieved it with the Samp Primavera team against Grosseto in April 2012.
Sampdoria hadn’t scored six at Marassi in the League since a 6-3 victory over Napoli on December 21 1997. Eder took his top flight tally to 11, it was Pedro Obiang’s first. Pescara haven’t scored in 270 minutes of football and concede an average of two goals per game. The Delfini have never beaten Sampdoria in the top flight, earning three draws from eight meetings, home and away.
Palermo have only ever conquered Sardinia once in all competition, a 1-0 result in September 2007, along with seven defeats and four draws. Cagliari extended their unbeaten streak to one win and two consecutive draws. Thiago Ribeiro got his seventh Serie A goal, while Radja Nainggolan made his 100th top flight appearance.
Siena have lost their last six consecutive visits to the Stadio Friuli and have just one victory here along with three draws and 10 defeats. Udinese registered their third straight home win, conceding just once in the process. Luis Muriel has scored three in the last three Stadio Friuli matches. Siena have managed only four points in the last nine rounds, worse than any other team.
