Atalanta captain Cristiano Doni is confident that he will be cleared of any wrongdoing in the match-fixing betting probe.
The attacking midfielder has been named in the investigation which once again shook the world of Italian football.
"As a result of the media reports relating to his involvement in the investigations, Cristiano Doni is certain that he always acted within the rules," a note released on behalf of the player read.
"He has the utmost confidence in the civil and sporting justice system."
Police arrested 16 people yesterday morning accused of contributing to an alleged betting ring that tried to fix games in Serie A, Serie B and Lega Pro.
Among those under investigation is Doni, while some Orobici matches have been listed among the 18 that have raised suspicions.
"Go watch all the games and you'll realise this is a comical farce," snapped Atalanta Coach Stefano Colantuono.
"The intercepted telephone calls say nothing about the results of our games, so the promotions of Atalanta and Siena are legitimate.
"Doni's involvement is absurd. He would never hurt Atalanta. This is a comical situation."
