Federico Balzaretti is still buzzing from his Italy debut and knows he must impress with Palermo to get another chance.
“Playing last night was so satisfying. I hoped to do better, but just being there for that game was very exciting,” he told Stadionews.
The left-back was one of four debutants in the starting XI for the 1-1 draw against Romania.
“At the end of the game Cesare Prandelli complimented everyone. I am very happy to have received his call.
“It is never easy to play with new teammates after just one training session. We struggled a bit at the start, but after the break played better. The pitch wasn't in great shape due to the heavy rain, so we couldn't pass it around with one-touch football.”
Balzaretti took a long time to finally be recognised at international level and hopes to stay there in future.
“I am certainly not a stable figure in the squad, but I hope to improve and always play better. I have to do well with my club, because another Azzurri call depends solely on that.
“I'd like to thank all my Palermo teammates, as they earned me this call. Thank you to the club and the Coach.”
