Serse Cosmi is already transforming Palermo on his debut. “We'll adopt a 3-5-2 system with Josip Ilicic in central midfield.”
The Coach was drafted in this week after a shock 7-0 home defeat to Udinese marked the end for Delio Rossi.
“During the week we tried out this new system, so will adopt a 3-5-2,” explained Cosmi ahead of the trip to Lazio.
“Ilicic started his career as a central midfielder, so for me he is not a trequartista. I cannot transform his style of play, but I do want him to take part in the overall team movements a lot more.
“Fabio Liverani is not fit to play 90 minutes, so he will start from the bench.”
Fabrizio Miccoli and Mauricio Pinilla are injured with Arman Bacinovic and Mattia Darmian suspended.
“Clearly we have to put the 7-0 result behind us and the only way to tell if that has happened is to see the reaction on the pitch.
“Lazio have many quality players, like Hernanes, Mauro Zarate, Giuseppe Sculli and Sergio Floccari. They're doing very well, but we mustn't forget their other players who don't take the spotlight so much.”
With Miccoli out of action, even more of the pressure falls on Javier Pastore to shine.
“It is a great privilege to train him and a pleasure to watch him play,” continued Cosmi.
“He is a little tired at the moment and irritable, but this is a crucial player for Palermo. This squad has quality and my job is only to bring them out of this tough time. Talking about future targets is wrong.”
Palermo squad: Benussi, Brichetto, Sirigu; Andelkovic, Balzaretti, Bovo, Cassani, Garcia, Munoz, Prestia; Acquah, Ilicic, Kasami, Kurtic, Liverani, Migliaccio, Nocerino, Pastore; Hernandez, Nappello, Paolucci
