According to reports from South America, Napoli are closing in on an agreement as part of a deal for Real Betis’ Argentine midfielder Guido Rodriguez, who is set to be out of contract at the end of the 2023-24 season.

Cesar Luis Merlo of popular Argentine outlet TyC Sport reports that Napoli are in advanced negotiations for Rodriguez, although Real Betis are expected to offer a new deal again at the end of the season.

“We will meet with him again at the end of the season,” Ramon Alcaron, CEO of Real Betis told Radio Sevilla listeners recently, reported via TMW

However, as it stands, Rodriguez is due to be a free agent at the end of the 2023-24 season and could therefore move to Napoli on a free transfer should the parties agree on personal terms.

The 30-year-old, who has been capped 27 times by his country, has racked up 132 LaLiga appearances since moving to Europe five seasons ago. He had previously been on the books with Club America and Club Tijuana in Liga MX and had begun his career in Argentina with River Plate.

A defensive midfielder by trade, Rodriguez has also been mentioned in conversations about Juventus and Barcelona in recent weeks, according to Wednesday’s update.
