Dries Mertens visited his former Napoli teammates today, but Khvicha Kvaratskhelia didn’t train due to gastroenteritis.

Napoli are preparing for the upcoming Serie A match against Empoli at the Stadio Castellani, but their star Kvaratskhelia didn’t train at Castel Volturno on Wednesday due to gastroenteritis, the defending Serie A champions said in an official statement. Mathías Olivera trained separately on the pitch as he continued his recovery from an adductor injury.

The Uruguay international is not expected to recover in time for Saturday’s match and Juan Jesus is also in doubt, while Amir Rrahmani and Mario Rui will be suspended, leaving Francesco Calzona short of options in defence.

Ex-Napoli striker Mertens, the club’s best scorer, reunited with his ex-teammates at Castelvolturno today and followed the training session led by Calzona.

Napoli have won just one Serie A match from the last five and currently sit eighth in the table, level on 49 points with Lazio.
