Following a 2-2 friendly draw with Belgium, England fans expressed their utter bemusement that Milan defender Fikayo Tomori doesn’t even get called up by Gareth Southgate.

The centre-back is 26 years old and at the peak of his powers with the Rossoneri, but only has five senior England caps to his name.

As we approach the Euro 2024 tournament in Germany this summer, it is becoming clear that England have problems in defence and the two friendly tests during this break have not been reassuring.

They were beaten 2-0 by Brazil, then snatched a last-gasp 2-2 draw with Belgium this evening after twice conceding through defensive howlers.

Seeing Brighton defender Lewis Dunk robbed by Romelu Lukaku – a repeat of when Roma beat Brighton in the Europa League – sparked incredulous protests from England fans on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“How is Tomori not seeing a single minute for England?” was the recurring theme.

“Southgate really picked Dunk over Fikayo Tomori…”

It is particularly odd considering their respective experience on the field.

“Shame that Tomori has to play for a club like AC Milan, maybe if he was starting every week for a European powerhouse like Brighton he’d be playing for England tonight,” was one sarcastic response.

“What is Southgate’s problem with Fikayo Tomori?” asked supporters.

“Look, I’ve given Tomori a lot of criticism… But to have LEWIS DUNK ahead of him is a sackable offence for Southgate alone.”

Some painted quite the picture: “Tomori sitting eating pasta in Milan whilst Dunk starts for England…”

Considering he was not called up for these friendlies, it seems unlikely that Tomori will be part of the Euro 2024 squad.
