Late Fiorentina CEO Joe Barone opened talks with Nicolo Zaniolo recently as the Viola gear up for a summer move, reports detail.

The 24-year-old forward recently admitted to the press that he’s hoping to return to Italy ahead of next season, having suffered with the difficulties and changes of living abroad in Turkey and England. He’s already ruled out a move to Lazio and a return to Roma seems unlikely too.

Fiorentina have been in a state of mourning in recent weeks after the unexpected passing of club chief Barone, who was playing a leading role in the club’s ambitious growth. After a brief rest period, the Viola players and directors are now hard at work once again.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport via TMW, Barone opened talks with Zaniolo and his entourage recently, keen to start setting the groundwork for a deal in the summer transfer window. Despite the CEO’s tragic death, the plans surrounding the Aston Villa flop haven’t changed.

The Viola are keen to bring the 24-year-old back to Italy in the summer and expect to negotiate with Galatasaray, considering the player’s struggles with Aston Villa.
