Mateo Retegui has received plenty of praise in the Italian press on Friday morning following his brace in Italy’s 2-1 victory over Venezuela in the United States on Thursday night, while some outlets have linked him with a potential move to Juventus in the future.

Retegui was at the centre of most of the Italian sport papers’ front pages on Friday morning, all of which claimed that he was the bright light in an otherwise uninspiring display from Luciano Spalletti’s side.

The Genoa striker broke the deadlock for Italy five minutes before the end of regular time in the first period, before restoring the lead 10 minutes before the end of the second half.

Retegui now has four goals from his first five appearances in an Italy shirt.

Calciomercato.com claimed that Retegui would have had more opportunities for club and country had it not been for a series of minor injuries throughout the 2023-24 season.

The same report noted that Juventus were the first club that Retegui’s father visited when he and the striker’s entourage first began exploring a move to Serie A. Retegui eventually went on to sign for Genoa in a permanent deal last summer.

However, with both Moise Kean and Arkadiusz Milik in line to depart the Allianz Stadium in the near future, Calciomercato reports that Juventus could be interested in signing Retegui again as a potential back-up or rotation option for Dusan Vlahovic.
