Cruzado came off the bench to inspire Chievo with an assist and a goal, seeing off 10-man Bologna 2-0.
Stefano Pioli faced his former club, but had to do without a host of players. Gaston Ramirez was dropped after demanding a transfer to Southampton, with Archimede Morleo suspended, Gianluca Curci, Riverola and Rene Krhin injured. Chievo missed Alberto Paloschi and Boukary Drame due to fitness worries.
Cyril Thereau’s ball crossed the face of goal to find Sergio Pellissier, but the finish was over the bar.
David Di Michele’s free kick was chipped over the wall for a Luca Rigoni volley, but the acrobatic attempt was too high.
Chievo broke the deadlock on 65 minutes and Cruzado had a lot to do with it, as his entrance from the bench seemed to make the difference. Cruzado’s cross from practically the corner flag found Sergio Pellissier between the defenders to nod powerfully in at the near post. It was a good way to mark Pellissier’s 300th appearance for the Flying Donkeys.
Manolo Gabbiadini made his Bologna debut, having arrived this week from Atalanta via Juventus.
Cruzado created the first and scored Chievo’s second himself. It was a training ground exercise, as Luciano rolled a free kick to Cruzado just inside the area for the low finish.
Bologna ended the game with 10 men, as Diego Perez received a straight red card for his two-footed tackle on Cruzado.
Sent off: Perez 87 (B)
