A brace from Innocent Emeghara and one Alessandro Rosina strike gave Siena a 3-0 win over Lazio.
The capital club went into the game looking for the three points that would take them back into the top-four and the Champions League places. And they did so spearheaded by Sergio Floccari and Libor Kozak. The home side meanwhile were hoping for the win that would take them off of the bottom of the Serie A table – pinning their hopes on lone front-man Emeghara.
The Swiss international didn’t take long to repay the Robur’s faith though, as after just six minutes, the man on-loan from Lorient headed home Matteo Rubin’s cross for an early lead.
The Nigeria-born goalscorer was causing all sorts of problems with his movement up top, but it was the Biancocelesti who, despite the early blip, were dominating the opening exchanges. After 20 minutes, Vladimir Petkovic’s men had just under 70 per cent possession, but clear-cut chances weren’t forthcoming.
The lack of cutting-edge eventually paid for the Aguile, as midway through the half, Rosina poked home another Rubin cross to double their advantage.
Still the away side controlled the ball, but Kozak’s weak effort from the edge of the area right on the stroke of half-time, was as close as they came to pulling one back before the break.
After the interval, still the visitors monopolised possession without ever really unnerving Gianluca Pegolo in the home side’s goal.
The Lazio attack were looking blunt – but it was the defence for the capital club that was even more worrying. And with only their third shot on goal, Siena bagged their third of the night, as Emeghara again struck, outpacing Michael Ciani and finishing past Federico Marchetti.
The game fizzled out from there as Petkovic’s side resigned themselves to an embarrassing defeat, as they failed to capitalise on Juventus and Napoli’s slip-ups earlier at the weekend.
