Fiorentina finally celebrated their first victory of the calendar year with Luca Toni and Stevan Jovetic seeing off Parma.
The Viola were still looking for their first win of 2013, though Vincenzo Montella insisted he was happy with the overall performances. The Ducali were also looking to get back on track following their home defeat to Napoli.
Alberto Aquilani began a two-match ban for insulting the referee, joining the injured Mati Fernandez, Giuseppe Rossi and Michele Camporese, but Emiliano Viviano returned to goal and David Pizarro was back from injury. Parma had to do without Fabiano Santacroce and Daniele Galloppa.
Giulio Migliaccio had the ball in the back of the net, but it was disallowed for a push on the goalkeeper. Viviano was given the nod after he was dropped for a month, but performed a stunning save to deny Ishak Belfodil’s tap-in from a Jonathan Biabiany cross.
Antonio Mirante got down to palm away a Stevan Savic header and Jaime Valdes fired just wide after going on the counter from a Pizarro error.
Luca Toni finally broke through with a towering header that went in off the inside of the far post, giving Mirante no chance from Juan Cuadrado’s cross.
Nicola Sansone’s curler stung Viviano’s palms, while neither Toni nor Migliaccio could get the final touch to a Cuadrado ball across the face of goal.
Fiorentina doubled their lead in the second half when Migliaccio knocked down a Manuel Pasqual cross for Stevan Jovetic to tap in after an Alessandro Lucarelli error.
Cuadrado drilled just wide and Toni put the angled drive in the net after the offside flag had been correctly raised.
Mirante flew to fingertip a Cuadrado strike round the post, as Parma appeared to run out of steam.
