Atalanta ended a run of three consecutive defeats by getting the better of Parma, as German Denis and Federico Peluso sealed a 2-1 win.
Both sides were coming off defeats and eager to get back on track, but the Ducali’s last win in Bergamo was 11 years ago. The hosts missed James Troisi, Davide Biondini, Ferreira Pinto, Guido Marilungo and the suspended Guglielmo Stendardo. Parma were without Daniele Galloppa, Aleandro Rosi and Jaime Valdes.
It took just four minutes for Atalanta to break the deadlock, as German Denis steered a header past Antonio Mirante from Ezequiel Schelotto’s cross. Curiously, this was the first headed goal that Parma had conceded this season.
Amauri had penalty appeals for a handling offence waved away, while Stephan Acquah and Massimo Gobbi finished off target. Gianpaolo Bellini crucially intercepted a Jonathan Biabiany assist for Amauri and Thomas Manfredini charged down Marco Parolo’s effort.
Just as Parma were pouring forward, Atalanta snatched a second on the counter-attack. Maxi Moralez set up Denis, whose shot was parried into the path of Federico Peluso for the easiest of tap-ins.
Amauri kept the game alive by getting one back on the stroke of half-time. The Brazilian-Italian got in front of marker Bellini to nod in a Marco Marchionni cross from the right.
Giacomo Bonaventura’s header was too weak to trouble Mirante and Amauri wasted a good opportunity created with promising Under-21 international Nicola Sansone.
Parma were forced to substitute their goalkeeper due to an injury, bringing on Nicola Pavarini.
Sansone went on a mazy run and Manfredini needed a sliding tackle to stop him beating the goalkeeper, while Gabriel Paletta should’ve done better when turning Marchionni’s free kick off target with a free header.
Pavarini was at full stretch to beat away a Bonaventura missile and Giuseppe De Luca was booked for simulation when in a tussle with Alessandro Lucarelli.
Sansone drilled just wide of the upright, but a brawl broke out because Bellini was down injured at the time. Atalanta threatened a third goal in the final minutes, as Denis turned over from another Schelotto cross. In stoppages De Luca wasted a golden opportunity when clear on goal, allowing Pavarini to save.
