Calcio & Finanza performed a study on shirt sponsorships and found some remarkable results.

In total, the 20 Premier League clubs bring in €286.5m from main shirt sponsors alone.

In comparison, the 20 Serie A sides earn €91.2m.

This is partly because Roma, Lazio, Palermo and Fiorentina do not have shirt sponsors.

In the Viola’s case, it is given over to charity Save the Children.

Genoa and Sampdoria do not have main sponsors, but do earn very small amounts from secondary shirt sponsors.

The top earner in the Premier League is Manchester United, who bring in €60m from sponsors Chevrolet.

Surprisingly, minnows Sassuolo have the biggest sponsorship deal in Serie A worth €22m with Mapei.

It should be noted that the club is owned by Giorgio Squinzi, the patron of Mapei adhesives and sealants, and he also named the stadium after his company.

Juventus and Milan follow with €17m each for their shirt sponsors, while Inter get €13m and Napoli €9.7m.

From there it’s a big drop-off, as Atalanta are next in the list on €2.5m.

The Premier League’s top earners are Manchester United on €60m, Chelsea €55m, Arsenal €38m, Manchester City and Liverpool €25m, Tottenham €22m.
