“I heard talk of systems, but every system has to be placed alongside motivation,” the director of sport told Mediaset Premium.

“Tactics and technique are important, but the mental approach is equally crucial. Football is a team sport in which there are many components and you need to respect each other.”

Allegri has been criticised and some say his job is at risk if he doesn’t turn things around quickly.

“When you are faced with unpleasant statistics like the current Serie A table, obviously the Coach is going to be the first in the dock, but those who know him as we do realise he is working well.

“We must support him, at the same time knowing Juventus were born to win, so we must work even harder. In Serie A we have time to recover.

“Am I optimistic? Of course, otherwise we’d give up.”

Caceres was suspended by the club following a car crash on Monday night, his second in as many years, and reportedly failed a breath test.

“Those who make a mistake must pay the price. We made a strong decision in a difficult moment. This club must maintain a strong image, because often it is said the squad is the reflection of the club.”
