Iago Falque admits he “had to work hard” for Roma to earn a 1-1 draw against Barcelona.

“I am pleased with the faith Rudi Garcia has in me. I do what he asks on the pitch, though it wasn’t my sharpest game in attack tonight because Barcelona really force you back.

“This is a very important point, as Barcelona are the trophy holders and it’s tough to get anything against them. We worked very hard and I think we’re on the right track.

“It’s easy to settle in and play good football with these teammates. I had to go deeper than usual, as Leo Messi always had the ball, so I had to help out Lucas Digne.

“Against Juventus we dominated practically the whole game, whereas we took a different approach with Barcelona, didn’t suffer as much as most of their opponents do and had our chances to score.

“I think we are on track for an important campaign.”
