The Italy international lobbed Marc-Andre Ter Stegen from 50 metres to earn a 1-1 Champions League draw.

“The goal was important because it brought Roma a point. It was a great goal, in all honesty I think my face was clear afterwards,” the homegrown talent told Mediaset Premium.

“It’s not something that happens to you every day. Watching it back on video, I am getting emotional.

“I saw Edin (Dzeko), who didn’t want it, and I thought I’d give it a go. At worst it’d be a goal kick and we’d start all over again.

“We climbed Everest and stopped the strongest team in the world. We fought it out till the end, remaining united towards one sole objective and I think we played well when possible.

“We prepared very well for this, studied Barcelona and knew their strengths were on the flanks. Edin gave us a big hand in attack to hold up the ball, acting as our anchor, and we doubled up marking constantly.

“We are happy, now we want to enjoy this night and then immediately focus on Sassuolo.”

Daniele De Rossi said Florenzi will become one of the best right-backs in the world, which is remarkable considering he only recently started playing in that position.

“It’s not a small thing, is it? I thank him, I’ll buy him a coffee tomorrow. Before the game my main thought was ‘I hope I don’t do any damage!’”
