Maurizio Sarri felt one of Empoli’s goals should’ve been disallowed in a 2-2 draw with his Napoli.

The Coach returned to his old stomping ground and his team twice fought back for a point at the Stadio Castellani.

“The first 20 minutes saw us improving considerably and we put in a great second half performance. I thought we would win it at the end,” he told Mediaset Premium.

“We have to focus on the positives and these signs of growth. Don’t forget that four months ago at half-time my Empoli was 3-0 up against Napoli here. The Castellani won’t be a walk in the park for anyone.

“We made a mistake on the first goal, while the second was an error from the referee. Riccardo Saponara touched the ball with his hand and it was visible from the bench. Everyone saw it. I think only the referee didn’t!

“We were unlucky, so hope to have luck go our way in future. We would’ve brought home the game if we hadn’t conceded that second goal. Undoubtedly, to get the three points we have to concede fewer goals.

“The defence moved better today and allowed little from the 20th minute onwards. We moved to the 4-3-3 because the 4-3-1-2 is not a dogma. We have the right players to move between the systems.”
