Claudio Marchisio “hopes it’s nothing serious,” but a muscular problem could rule him out of Manchester City-Juventus.

The midfielder had been out of action since early August and made his comeback in Saturday’s 1-1 Serie A draw against Chievo.

He went off at half-time and Coach Max Allegri confirmed he felt his thigh muscle harden, so was substituted as a precaution.

“This is not an easy time, but all together we will get back on our feet,” wrote Marchisio on social media.

“Now the Champions League begins. We must focus on working to get better, game by game.

“Tomorrow we’ll have some tests on my right thigh. I hope it’s nothing serious.”

Juventus begin their Champions League campaign away to Manchester City on Tuesday evening.

The Bianconeri are having their worst ever start to a Serie A season, scraping one point from the opening three rounds.
