The Aquile finished third last season and reached the Coppa Italia Final, but their last two games were 3-0 at Bayer Leverkusen and 4-0 to Chievo.

“We have to fight the way we know how to fight. Play the way we know how to play. Less talk, more action,” was Pioli’s recipe in a Press conference.

“You can see a squad with potential, but at the moment it’s not put on to the field. Results are what count and right now we have to focus on getting those. There are 36 games and two competitions ahead of us.

“We need solidity and belief. Difficulties will come, but we have to get through them together. I expect a response on that and we worked on it this week.

“I think we have a lot more to say in this campaign. Against Chievo we did absolutely none of what we’d prepared in training. We must remember that we’re a great team and I see in the players that desire to get back to being ourselves.”

Alessandro Matri is in the squad, arriving on loan from Milan on transfer deadline day, as Miroslav Klose and Filip Djordjevic are still injured.

“He is a striker with important characteristics and is in decent condition, but not great right now. Keita Balde Diao will make an impact this season, regardless of the position he takes on the field.”

Lazio have sold fewer season tickets this season than at any time during the Claudio Lotito era after fans protested at a timid transfer campaign.

“We must win them back by putting our fighting spirit into the games. Udinese are tough opponents and we must pick up the tempo, playing in a more aggressive way.”
