Gigi Buffon warned Italy are “gambling with qualification” for Euro 2016 against Malta and Bulgaria.

The Azzurri host Malta in Florence on Thursday evening, then face Bulgaria on Sunday in Palermo.

“We cannot afford to underestimate our opponents anymore, because lately they have been improving a lot and don’t concede bucket fulls of goals nowadays,” said the goalkeeper in a Press conference.

“On top of that, we have traditionally always struggled in games like this against so-called minnows. We are gambling with qualification between tomorrow and Sunday, so we can’t get it wrong.

“We will try to continue our journey trying to always be convincing in terms of result, effort and performance.”

Captain Buffon was asked about Paris Saint-Germain talent Marco Verratti, who is expected to start tomorrow.

“Verratti has nothing to prove, as he always plays at the top level with PSG. You prove yourself a leader game after game, there’s no one moment that turns things around.”

Juventus lost their first two games of the Serie A season, something that had never happened before.

“From Monday we’ll start to analyse things carefully and make the necessary adjustments. When we are in the Nazionale, we are concentrated on Italy and it wouldn’t be right to think of anything else.”
