Leonardo Bonucci said “this is a transitional year” for Juventus after their shock home defeat to Udinese.

The Bianconeri hadn’t lost their season opener since 2010 against Bari, but were stunned by a Cyril Thereau goal.

“Nobody likes to start with a defeat, especially as it came about with Udinese having their first shot on target after 78 minutes,” Bonucci told Sky Sport Italia.

“We always press forward and try not to get too hasty looking to score. Today we weren’t good enough in front of goal and it’s a shame.

“There is a very important game next week and we will try to show our real strength against Roma.

“Everyone needs patience, as it is a transitional year, but that doesn’t mean we’ve lost before we begin. There are many young players here and we have to put them in the best condition to do well.”
