“Destiny wanted me to start this adventure with a team and environment that I know very well,” said the former Lazio Coach in his Press conference.

“It won’t be a game like the others for me, but as soon as the opening whistle is heard all that will be set aside. I never face enemies, only opponents.

“Lazio are accustomed to playing every three days and are a great team, so I don’t think the Champions League will distract them.

“Bologna are still a work in progress, so what counts more than anything right now is the spirit we put into the game. We must play with humility, but also the arrogance of a side that has nothing to lose and everything to gain.”

Destro is expected to make his debut just days after completing the transfer from Roma, on loan with option to buy.

“Destro has quality and it’s up to me now to get the best out of him. He arrived after a media storm, it felt almost like we were waiting for Godot, so I don’t want too much responsibility placed on his shoulders.

“We mustn’t expect him to pull the rabbit out of the hat straight away or score five goals per game, but I am certain he will make the difference once he is ready.

“Above all we require patience with the younger players, especially those who are new to Serie A. We chose these players because they have great potential, but we must also have the strength to wait for them and not knock them down after the first mistake.”

Ibrahima Mbaye is suspended following his red card in the Serie B promotion play-offs.

Bologna squad for Lazio: Da Costa, Mirante, Stojanovic; Ceccarelli, Ferrari, Maietta, Masina, Morleo, Oikonomou, Rossettini; Brighi, Crimi, Crisetig, Diawara, Pulgar, Silvestro; Acquafresca, Brienza, Destro, Falco, Mancosu
