“We want to give Stadio San Paolo a new soul,” De Laurentiis explained, speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.

“In the coming weeks we’ll move forward with the renewal of the lease which is long enough to allow us to proceed with three specific points.

“In the coming weeks we’ll move forward with the renewal of the lease which is long enough to allow us to proceed with three specific points.

“It will be a stadium of 41,000 seats, it will have the same capacity of Juventus Stadium. We have some distinct ideas for the sidelines, which we’ll develop with several businesses.

“I hope that this stadium will be the beginning of a revival for the south, as Naples is one of the most impoverished areas in the south.

“Why 41,000 seats? Because I’m sure in the next five years the number of spectators will decline sharply, for reasons I’m here to explain.

“I think online will become more important than the actual stadium, this is already happening in film and in other areas too.

“I think even 41,000 seats might be excessive, and usually I’ve always guessed right.

“If we can start next spring, and bearing in mind we’ll still be playing in the stadium, I think we could complete the work in 2018.

“But between now and 2018, what will have changed in the world of football? How much will the focus have changed between the virtual and the real side of football?

“We’ll build a stadium measured for the number of fans. We’ll open it in two years, and then it won’t become obsolete in 20 years.”
