Riccardo Saponara wants to prove that Empoli's endurance in Serie A is 'not an accident', and that they don't need 'big names'.

The 23-year-old was loaned to the Azzurri last January, and the club purchased him in full this summer.

At the team's official presentation, he spoke up as a representative of his team.

“I'm happy to be part of this group,” he said.

“I'm pleased to have started preparations with this team, it's very unlike last year, when I came in halfway through the season.

“Now we have to test our team mechanisms by means of our work.

“We lost some players, but we've already proved that you don't need big names to reach your targets.

“The most important thing is that we've got hard work and passion. These are the values that let you achieve anything.

“We're a group full of lads that have some extremely important human values.

“We have the chance to show that we can keep this team in Serie A again, and that we didn't make it by accident last year.

“We'll have a new Coach and new players, but we can make it.”
