Mohamed Salah’s arrival in Rome could be delayed – after fires near Fiumicino airport caused flights to be cancelled.

The winger is due to arrive in Italy today, before undergoing a Roma medical tomorrow, ahead of his move from Chelsea.

Fiorentina have threatened to delay the move after Salah’s refusal to return for a second loan spell, but it appears nature is also holding up the move.

A fire broke out in a nearby brush area, according to news agency ANSA, before moving to a nearby pine grove, fuelled by strong winds.

All flights are currently suspended at the airport, with Salah due to arrive at 18.14 local time, 17.14 GMT.

Fiumicino mayor Esterino Montino described the situation as ‘very serious’, with flames spreading from ‘two or three different places’.
