The centre-back is not new to extraordinary strikes, but this scissor-kick volley from the edge of the box was seen around the world in the International Champions Cup.

“I scored a fine goal and it takes luck, I must be honest, but also the courage to try. If you don’t give it a go, you can’t make it happen,” Mexes told Milan Channel.

“Aside from that, I thought the team played well and showed some good signs. We are on the right track and working very hard in training. I compliment the side for this victory, as it’s never a friendly against Inter.”

Coach Sinisa Mihajlovic congratulated Mexes for the goal by giving him a playful kick up the backside.

“There’s a great team spirit in the locker room, thanks also to the Coach who on the one side can be very stern with his rules, but on the other he allows music. It might seem like a small detail, but it isn’t.

“We haven’t done anything yet, but we are happy and must continue like this.”

It was reported Mihajlovic didn’t want Mexes in his squad and the defender only penned a new one-year contract after the old one had expired.

“I am very proud to still be wearing the Milan jersey for another year. I will always give 100 per cent. We have many talented centre-backs now like Rodrigo Ely, Alex, Gabriel Paletta and Cristian Zapata.

“There’s a lot of competition for places, but it’s great for us because we have to be brilliant to earn our spot.”
