The report says that Milan representatives contacted the player directly to ask him to delay a decision on his future until August, due to worries of a switch to the Premier League.

It has also been suggested that the upcoming International Champions Cup matches against Inter and Real Madrid will help determine whether a heavy midfield investment is required.

It is believed that Zenit value the 26-year-old at €35m, but the Rossoneri have reportedly targeted Sampdoria’s Roberto Soriano as a less expensive plan B.
