Milan have made no secret of their desire to snap up the Roma youth academy product, who spent last season on loan at Sampdoria.

So far they have seen several offers rejected, as the price-tag remains €30m (£21m).

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport and the Daily Express, Arsenal could well swoop in to steal the defender.

They see the Under-21 international as the ideal replacement for Per Mertesacker and Roma would rather sell abroad than reinforce an Italian competitor.
