Luis Suarez wants an “apology” from FIFA for an “excessive” ban after he bit Giorgio Chiellini during the 2014 World Cup.

The Uruguay international was caught on camera munching on the Italy defender’s shoulder during their crucial group game and the 1-0 result eventually knocked the Azzurri out.

He was barred for nine games and not even allowed into the stadium to watch his team’s progress.

“When the Diego Godin goal went in, I didn’t celebrate the way I would’ve done,” Suarez told Fox Sports Radio in Uruguay.

“I realised what I had done was wrong and I knew what could happen. In my view, FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee know my ban was excessive and at some point I’d love them to apologise and admit it was the wrong punishment, just as I admitted when I was wrong.”

However, in the same interview Suarez admits he even lied to his own wife about biting Chiellini.

Uruguay tried to defend the forward, arguing he had ‘fallen’ on to the defender’s shoulder, but the video evidence left few doubts.

“When Tabarez announced the sanction, I tried to be strong, but the tears were inevitable. Someone can make a mistake, but to say ‘you can’t even enter a stadium’ is incomprehensible.”
