“Many of you are asking about Monaco. Some claim I have already signed. It’s not true!!! If there is something, you will know about it here.”

However, on Tuesday evening Destro had been reticent to accept an experience abroad, turning down German side Wolfsburg last year, but appears to be convinced by Monaco.

The 24-year-old is expected to complete the transfer for €14m plus performance-related bonuses.

Roma director Walter Sabatini is in Monte Carlo this evening with agent Claudio Vigorelli for the final negotiations.

Destro had also been linked with newly-promoted Bologna and Premier League outfits Arsenal and West Ham United.
