Sampdoria’s Lorenzo De Silvestri went under the knife today to correct a double knee injury.

The right-back was stretchered off in agony during the 1-1 draw between Croatia and Italy on Friday.

He was diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his right knee.

De Silvestri underwent surgery today in Rome’s Villa Stuart, an operation that lasted approximately an hour.

He will begin rehabilitation on Monday and is expected to be out of action for six to eight months.
