“This is football!” declared Rossi following the dramatic game that saw Bologna reduced to 10 men and saved by the woodwork.

“I am happy for the lads, who reached the end absolutely exhausted. We deserved this promotion.”

Rossi took over mid-season, but insisted he should not take the credit. “I didn’t bring anything, there was a year of work in this squad.”

Striker Gianluca Sansone scored the decisive goal at the Stadio Dall’Ara.

“It’s an indescribable joy to see an entire city celebrating like this,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

Domenico Maietta added this was his second promotion after Hellas Verona. “Despite all the difficulties, we managed this huge achievement.

“Nobody believed in us, but the group deserved promotion. We never gave up and we did it, even though so many wanted other clubs in Serie A.”
