Ignazio Abate is believed to be close to signing a new three-year deal to stay at Milan.

The Italian international made his 200th appearance for the Rossoneri during Saturday’s win over Roma, and it appears he will get the opportunity to significantly expand that tally.

Mediaset reports that the 28-year-old will be given a pay increase, upping his salary for €1.8m per year to €2.5m. His current deal was due to expire in June.

The news outlet notes that this is the time of the season where the Diavolo habitually sort out contracts for their stars, but Abate appears to be the only squad member currently offered an extension.

That could indicate a clear-out in the summer, with the likes of Sulley Muntari, Giampaolo Pazzini and Philippe Mexes allowed to leave.
