Fabio Capello believes Juventus can knock Real Madrid out of the Champions League. “They have a European mentality.”

The Bianconeri won the first leg of the semi-final 2-1 in Turin and travel to the Bernabeu on Wednesday night.

“Juve proved themselves to be a solid, determined team and the only one of the Italians with a European mentality,” the Russia Coach told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“They played in an intelligent way, hitting Madrid on the counter. Luka Modric’s absence was a huge blow for the Spaniards, as he gives them something more in terms of creativity connecting midfield to attack.

“Having said that, Juve were also missing Paul Pogba and that represents a huge handicap for them, yet they still won.

“The second leg will be a battle. Real Madrid always give their best on home turf and the Bernabeu crowd will be fired up, but this time focused more on the result than the performance.

“A 2-1 home win is a dangerous result for Juventus. This is why I still consider their chances of reaching the Final to be 50-50.”

Max Allegri has already secured the Scudetto and is in the Coppa Italia Final against Lazio.

“Now there is a huge gap between them and the other Italian clubs.”

Capello of course has experience of working at both Juventus and Real Madrid, so admires Carlo Ancelotti’s work.

“Carlo has the team on his side and that is very important. There is absolutely no doubt he is the Number One Italian Coach.”
