Torino President Urbano Cairo believes that security controls must be stricter after crowd trouble marred Sunday’s Derby della Mole.

Torino defeated Juventus for the first time in 20 years at the Stadio Olimpico, but the event was tarnished by a paper bomb injuring a group of Torino fans during the match.

Granata supporters had attacked the Juventus team bus as it approached the stadium before the match, but the bomb thrown by Juve fans hospitalised 10 Toro supporters.

“There are a lot of words that can go too far from the concrete facts,” Cairo told Radio 1.

“In England the situation with violent fans was worse than in Italy but then they intervened and the stadiums became peaceful places.

“You can’t have one steward for every spectator. Yesterday, apart from the paper bomb, everything went the right way but of course the controls must be stricter.

“Football must go back to being an event for families; there must be minimal risk for children and families in particular because as it is we’re putting our football at risk."
