Wolfsburg Coach Dieter Hecking said they’ll “attempt the miracle” of overturning the Europa League quarter-final with Napoli.

The first leg was a 4-1 thumping in Germany, so it’ll take something extraordinary for them to turn this around at the Stadio San Paolo.

“We are not exactly optimistic about tomorrow’s game,” confessed the tactician in a Press conference.

“We are capable of scoring a goal and we can do it, but I’ll be honest, it’s going to be extremely difficult. We will give our best.”

Wolfsburg’s chances are further dented by injuries to Kevin de Bruyne and Andre Schurrle.

“We are missing two important players, but the rest of our squad is excellent, so I have many options at my disposal.

“Nicklas Bendtner could’ve started against Schalke at the weekend. He is very eager and I am certain he’ll have a great game against Napoli.

“I have to say our team is doing well, despite Napoli causing problems for us. We must avoid any kind of mistake tomorrow and learn not to give in.

“We haven’t lost all hope of qualifying for the semi-final. The situation could’ve been better, but we will attempt the miracle.”

Neapolitan papers were offended by a statement on the Wolfsburg website warning its fans to be careful on this trip to a ‘dangerous’ city with a high mugging risk.

“I didn’t know that was on our site. From my room I see a fantastic sea and I fell in love with the view. Of course I disassociate myself from this statement.”
