Paris Saint-Germain sorely missed suspended Marco Verratti and injured Thiago Motta, while captain Thiago Silva also limped off soon after the opening goal.

That was scored by Neymar, who ran on to a Leo Messi through ball. Barca doubled their lead after the break when Luis Suarez ran past David Luiz to score despite Salvatore Sirigu getting his fingertips to it.

Suarez nutmegged David Luiz again to go clear on goal, curling into the far top corner, while PSG gave themselves at least some slender hope with Gregory Van der Wiel’s strike deflected in off Mathieu.

There was a huge shock in Lisbon, where Porto trounced Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich.

The problems were evident within 120 seconds, as Jackson Martinez caught Xabi Alonso in possession and was brought down by Manuel Neuer for a penalty.

Ricardo Quaresma converted that, then seven minutes later scored another when pouncing on a terrible Dante error.

Bayern were able to pull one back thanks to Thiago Alcantara meeting a low Jerome Boateng cross.

Neuer made up for his earlier mistake with a couple of desperate saves on Hector Herrera and Alex Sandro.

Despite that, Porto did get a third with Jerome Boateng caught out by a long ball and allowing Jackson Martinez to waltz round Neuer.

The second leg ties are on April 21.
