It’s widely believed that the President is close to relinquishing control of the club, with reports last week claiming he has privately admitted it’s a ‘done deal’.

Among those believed to be in talks are Thai investor Bee Taechaubol, as well as Poe Qiu Ying Wang Shuo, also known as Mr Pink, who heads a Chinese consortium.

According to Tuttosport, there is unlikely to be a breakthrough until May, and indeed predicts an announcement of the sale on May 31.

That is the date of the regional elections, in which Berlusconi’s Forza Italia party is fielding candidates, and the move would put the former Prime Minister at the top of the news agenda.
