Luka Modric believes Croatia will 'beat Italy', and aims for first place in the Euro 2016 qualifier group.

The Azzurri slipped to second place in Group H after a 2-2 draw with Bulgaria at the weekend, with Croatia now enjoying a two-point lead.

Their 29-year-old midfielder, who played a pivotal role in Croatia's 5-1 demolition of Norway on Saturday, is confident they'll be able to defend that position.

“Our objective is that of emerging from Group H in first place,” Modric has commented.

“Against Italy we drew in Milan [1-1, November 16] and I think that in the return leg we'll beat them.”
