Andrea Bertolacci revealed he played for 20 minutes with a dislocated shoulder in Italy’s 2-2 draw with Bulgaria.

“The Bulgaria player fell on me and I dislocated my shoulder a bit. It’s a shame about the result, as we had so many chances, but did well to get the draw,” the Genoa midfielder told Rai Sport.

“It was disappointing to go out, as I wanted to do well, but the pain was growing and I had to come off.”

The Azzurri had gone in front after four minutes, but then conceded two counters in quick succession and only a late Eder scorcher snatched a point in Sofia.

“We had a great opportunity straight away and then scored, so perhaps such a strong start led to an unconscious dip in concentration.

“It hurts to only draw here, as we deserved a better result and should’ve been more clinical, plus more concentrated on their only two scoring opportunities.”

Even with the shoulder injury, many rated Bertolacci – who was only playing due to Claudio Marchisio’s injury – as Italy’s best performer.

“This was an important chance for me and I gave my all. I am thankful for compliments, but the important thing tonight was the result.”
