World Cup winner Marcello Lippi dismisses Italy Coach Antonio Conte's training camps, whilst discussing rising star Marco Verratti.

The notion of calling up Azzurri players for training camps not related to specific international games has been one of Conte's most discussed proposals during his tenure, but it does not meet everyone's favour.

Lippi, who alongside Vittorio Pozzo and Enzo Bearzot is one of only three men to have coached La Nazionale to World Cup glory, believes it is a non-issue.

“The question of the training camps is the last of all problems,” he said, in an interview with the Italian talk-show Il Processo del Lunedí.

“Nobody has them, not Spain, nor Germany. Conte is used to working with his players on the pitch, but in the end we're only talking about two days per year.

“There are greater problems, like finishing the championship a little earlier so that the European Championship tournament can be prepared for properly, but that seems to have been addressed.”

This was said in reference to FIGC Carlo Tavecchio's action to end the 2015-16 Serie A season earlier than usual.

The Coach from Viareggio also discussed one of the brightest Azzurri prospects, Paris Saint-Germain star Marco Verratti.

“He is the best and the readiest. I like him more than I can say and he already plays with champions.”
