The test comes just days after ultras staged a furious protest during their 3-0 Europa League defeat to Fiorentina.

“We will only emerge from this difficult moment by staying united and frankly we should’ve been closer together a lot earlier than this,” said Garcia in his Press conference.

“Obviously I will stay here until the end of my contract. I will not quit. I am here to win. It won’t be this year, but there is the future.

“At the end of the season the club and I will sum up the situation, but the players know full well what my motivation and objectives are.

“Now we must focus on the most important appointment, which is against Cesena, and get back to winning ways.

“Does the team have the right attitude? Obviously yes. The quality of a group is above all seen in moments of difficulty. I always fight against the risk of resting on your laurels. Now everyone knows they must give their all. We must fight, all together.”

The ultras at first walked out of the Curva Sud during the Fiorentina game, then stormed back in for the final 10 minutes to hurl abuse at their own players.

“As Keita said before Thursday’s game, a club is made up of many identities, including the team and the fans. We must keep the lines of communication open.

“A player works better if he feels the support of the fans. If they are against him, then certain moves come out worse.

“The proof is the one-on-one Gervinho had with Neto on Thursday. At the start of the season he certainly would’ve scored. We are the first to be disappointed by this situation.

“We must maintain the open dialogue with the fans, with reciprocal respect. I will always be behind my lads in public, while in the locker room I can be hard on them.”

Francesco Totti is out of the match with a thigh problem, but Seydou Doumbia will join the team later by travelling separately.

“Cesena are a side with quality who play on a synthetic pitch we are not accustomed to. We must be wary of Cesena’s strengths, but focus on our only objective, which is victory.

“We need confidence, hunger and determination. We must not simply accept the negative moment.”
